Erasure
What is erasure?
A Erasure poem is a type of found poem. What you do is take a poem and take out the things you want to use. The things you chose should relate to what it is you want the poem to be about. You then put everything together and create the poem in your own voice.

My Erasure
Poem: Life's Passage from the Notebook by Nicholas Sparks My Life isn’t easy It has not been spectacular More ups than downs, gradually trending upward overtime. Not everyone can say this about life Nothing special this I am sure. A common man with common thoughts, led a common life To me, this has always been enough. A love story, a tragedy In my mind it’s a little bit of both. In the end, it does not change The path I have chosen to follow. I have no complaints about my path and the places it has taken me The path I’ve chosen has always been the right one. I wouldn’t have it any other way. |
Understanding the Poem: I chose this as my Erasure poem because my goal was to write about life or love. I couldn't decide which I wanted however I knew that the book "The Notebook," by Nicholas Sparks had both. I read quickly through some pages and chose one that I felt was good to break apart. I decided to write the poem about life and how life can be challenging but you should never regret it. In my head I pictured all those quotes that talk about not regretting your past and I thought this poem talked about that. I always try to learn from the mistakes that I've made and I wanted to portray that in my poem. I also wanted it to have a strong ending and I think I did that by ending it with "I wouldn't have it any other way."
